About Santorini

Santorini

A very brief introduction as it is always useful to know where exactly we will be travelling next year.

Santorini is one of the largest (73km2) islands of a small Greek archipelago called Cyclades in the Aegean Sea, about 200km (that’s approximately 120 miles) from Greece’s mainland (please see the map below for further details).

Formerly single island Santorini is what remained after enormous volcanic explosion and to date this is the most active volcanic place in the South Aegean with some of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history. All this took place some 3600 years ago so we should all be safe there next September. Our extensive research has proven that the volcano is officially quiescent at present.

Most of you would have seen Santorini somewhere in the past. The hilltop villages with incredible panoramic views of white houses, perfect blue skies and never ending crystal clear ocean are one of the most romantic views on the planet.

Santorini is a very unique island with various towns built on the top of cliffs as well as the cliffs itself so please ensure everyone packs comfortable flat shoes – plenty of walking will be required. Many places are likely to be on the side of a very steep cliff which simply means plenty of marching up and down the stairs – what a joy! Places to see and visit on the island are spread out so taxis or little scooters will be necessary for those who would like to explore the island with us.
